Blogoversary Contest 4

From: Renee Greene – January 14, 2011 – 9:04 AM
To: Shelley Manning
Subject: Fwd: Shalom

Okay, so I sent my profile in last night and thought I would take a chance that someone emailed me this morning. Yes, I know that seems egotistical thinking that someone would email me so quickly after my profile was posted. And considering it didn’t officially go online until 1:00 am, I’m not sure I want to date anyone who was trolling the Internet for a date in the wee hours of the morning. But, to be honest, I’m kind of excited about the possibilities. Imagine that. Me…being hopeful. Who knew? Anyway, I was elated – yes, elated – to find I had a message. Hurrah! Then I read it. He is very religious, is looking for a “spiritual” woman and lives in Israel. Good lord! (HA! Maybe that does indeed make me “spiritual” enough for this guy.) Israel!!!

Blogoversary Contest 3

Jane Porter’s life is all about fiction, but when it comes to dealing with her inconsiderate upstairs tenant, she’s all business. The cuffs are off when her noisy neighbor jolts her out of a sound sleep with a cacophony of banging thuds and her erstwhile favorite workout musicians, the Ramones. Imagine her surprise to find the offending party is not her flighty neighbor, Amber … but a sizzling, melt-your-panties Adonis, Lucas Moore.

Discouraged when a recurrent nightmare drives Lucas from another sleepless night, he figures a hard run is the perfect physical distraction to help him get back to sleep. But half an hour into his groove, pounding on the door stops him in his tracks. Who knew opening it would change the course of his life. Yet, one look at the breath-taking woman demanding entrance put his whole body on alert—and a serious strain on his self-imposed celibacy.

Can a dangerous, ex-government agent and a friendly, outgoing writer have anything in common other than combustible physical attraction? And when the flames of passion are banked, can Lucas and Jane trust the tentative bond they’re building beyond the bedroom? Sometimes, the right words can make all the difference in the world.

Blogoversary Day 6: Jaydyn Chelcee

Jen: As we continue our blogoversary celebration, today we welcome Jaydyn Chelcee to the blog. Jaydyn, will you please share a short bio with us?
Jaydyn: Yes, but first let me say thank you for having me as your guest today. Now the bio: Jaydyn Chelcee has spent most of her life in Oklahoma, her home state, but at the same time, she’s traveled extensively, at least in the western half of the United States. One of her favorite settings in her contemporary western romances is Montana. She’s the author of the best selling Montana Men series, In the Arms of Danger, No Holds Barred, Too Close to the Fire, and Playing For Keeps.

A member of the Oklahoma Writer’s Federation, Inc., her paranormal romances, the Winslow witches of Salem series, written under Tabitha Shay have been nominated for several awards, including the prestigious P.E.A.R.L. Award for Witch’s Moon nominated for Best All Around Paranormal in 2008 and Witch’s Fire, Runner-up for Best Paranormal Book of 2010 at LRC.

Excerpt: Playing for Keeps by Jaydyn Chelcee

“Don’t let it trouble your pretty little head, sweetheart. I told you, you aren’t my type.” He tore off his denim coat and draped it across the back of the only chair in the room. With just that small movement, he groaned and what little color he had left drained away, leaving his face pale as the snow outside on the ground.

Flayme bit her lower lip and sent up another silent prayer that he didn’t die on her. Her eyes widened as she slowly scanned his body. Good grief, the man was armed to the gills. A shoulder holster fit snug against his side. When he turned to lock the door, she saw a second weapon at the small of his back. “You have one of those tucked in your boot, too?”

“What?” He frowned, dragging the chair across the room and jamming it beneath the doorknob, making the room as secure as possible.

“You expecting an invasion?” she asked, half joking. The other half of her mind darkened with fear. If he was this concerned, she thought maybe she should be too, or at the least, a bit more alert of what was going on around her. His unease worried her, because it meant there was something more than someone taking potshots at a little nobody CIA secretary.

Blogoversary Day 5: Grace Elliot

Writing to Me is….Escapism.

When I think about what writing means to me so many adjectives spring to mind: addictive, essential, rewarding, frustrating…but the one that stands head and shoulders above the rest is ‘escapism.’

Let me explain.

Life is hectic. I’m a working mother with two teenage sons. My job as a veterinarian is both intellectually and emotionally demanding. Veterinary medicine requires logic and deduction, not flights of fancy or the imagination, but cold, hard scientific facts in order to reach a diagnosis. And then I must translate those conclusions into words that a distressed client can understand without baffling them with long words.

Excerpt: A Dead Man's Debt by Grace Elliot

[Lord Ranulf Charing has rescued Celeste from the fire…but was he too late to save her life?]

Ranulf stirred beneath the bedcovers, trying to shut out the nagging voice in his ear.

“It’s me sir. Smethwick. Can you hear me?”

Ranulf stretched; he’d had a hideous nightmare and waking seemed a good idea. Then a terrible realisation washed over him that it hadn’t been a dream. Merciful heavens Celeste was in danger. He struggled to sit up but his head swam with the effort. A hand restrained his shoulder, that same voice firm but reassuring.

Before Jake Cosgrove met the new owner of Earthly Delights, he simply wanted to talk her into keeping the restaurant and leave him in charge. Earthly Delights wasn't just a place that served food, it was his home and his life. It was also the culinary feather in the toque blanche of its founder, Chef Daphne Davis, his mentor, hero, and the saving grace of those who worked there.

Plans go awry and while an unexpected midnight encounter in the lush garden conceals many things including identities, it doesn’t conceal the spark of attraction between Rosemary and Jake. With the dawn comes reality, however, and clashing agendas. Hoping to win the battle of wills, Jake issues a culinary challenge. Not to be outdone, Rosemary counters with one of her own. During the challenge, Jake begins to realize, course by delicious course that he wants much more from Rosemary than to save the restaurant…he wants Rosemary, herself. Rosemary on the other hand, isn’t quite sure what she wants…other than Jake.

With an enchanted garden filled with fresh summer produce and two talented and competitive individuals, how could either of them lose?

Short on time to find evidence proving the killer’s identity, Stephanie faces further complications when her family and friends decide that it’s time for her to choose between her longtime off-again-on-again boyfriend, Trenton cop Joe Morelli, and the bad boy in her life, security expert Ranger. Stephanie’s mom is encouraging Stephanie to dump them both and choose a former high school football star who’s just returned to town. Stephanie’s sidekick, Lula, is encouraging Stephanie to have a red-hot boudoir “bake off.” And Grandma Bella, Morelli’s old-world grandmother, is encouraging Stephanie to move to a new state when she puts “the eye” on Stephanie.

Blogoversary Day 2: Sondrae Bennett

Our anniversary celebration continues as we welcome Sondrae Bennett to Romancing the Book.  And we do have a contest, details at the end of the post.

I’m a huge reader. I think you have to be in order to write. When other girls went to the mall to buy clothes in high school, I headed straight for the bookstore. There is no greater feeling than picking up a book and sinking into the story, to be transported to a different world. By far my favorite world to escape to is romance. It has been since the first time I picked up a Nora Roberts book when I was twelve. My tastes have varied over the years, from contemporary to historical to erotica to paranormal, but through it all, the one constant has been the heart of the story.

Blogoversary Contest 1

Excerpt from Temptation Triggers:

Saturday, February 13, 1932

Today was a day I won’t soon forget. I met with him early as we had discussed the night before. He had a horse and carriage waiting for us outside the hotel. He helped me onto the bench and covered us with a blanket. The driver cracked his whip and the horse drove us around the city of Savannah.

There was a cold chill in the air but the blanket and my new friend kept me from noticing. As the carriage took a sharp turn, he took advantage of this opportunity and moved closer to me. I didn’t mind, I welcomed his advances. I would have sat on his lap if I hadn’t been so worried about appearances.
