I am always interested in reading novels about family situations, and the setting in the UK is one of my favorites of all, as well as various times. I used to read settings all over the world but now I find I prefer those set in the UK. What attracts me to a new author is the ability to write "pretty notes" (Louis Armstrong). I can hear those notes in the first few paragraphs of a novel.<BR/><BR/>I like assertive complicated women from any nation in novels. The women in Portrait of a Lady and The Voyage Out are examples of my favorites.
