When Nick blows into town, he’s stunned to discover that his no-nonsense new neighbor and co-worker is the same sultry creature he seduced for one night of forbidden island pleasure. Sunrise Point by Robyn Carr
Series: Virgin River (# 19)
Release Date: April 24, 2012
Publisher: Mira
Pages: 384
Source: NetGalley

Former marine Tom Cavanaugh has come home to Virgin River, ready to take over his family’s apple orchard and settle down. He knows just what the perfect woman will be like: sweet, decent, maybe a little naive. The marrying kind.

Nothing like Nora Crane. So why can’t he keep his eyes off the striking single mother?

Nora may not have finished college, but she graduated with honors from the school of hard knocks. She’s been through tough times and she’ll do whatever it takes to support her family, including helping with harvest time at the Cavanaughs’ orchard. She’s always kept a single-minded focus on staying afloat…but suddenly her thoughts keep drifting back to rugged, opinionated Tom Cavanaugh.

Both Nora and Tom have their own ideas of what family means. But they’re about to prove each other completely wrong.…

Review: I love every book by Robyn Carr. I would have a hard time picking my favorite one. Each hero is so different from the last and seems to be even more likable and even more hot! I don’t know how she manages to do it each and every time. Her books are like going home to your grandma’s house. You feel wrapped up in a hug of warmness and just want to kick back under the blankets till you finish her latest novel. Then when you are close to being done you want to weep because you know the wait for the next one is going to be a long time. You just might have to start re-reading her back list in order to keep you sated till the next novel comes out.Her latest novel has quickly become one that I can’t wait to re-read. Sunrise Point does not disappoint! You have the interaction with the rest of the town that makes the series so great.

Tom is a big strong ex-Marine who returns to Virgin River to help run his family’s apple orchard. He doesn’t want to hire Nora but his grandmother has something to say about that. She hires Nora on the spot. There’s instant attraction and tension between Nora and Tom. They both have things that they need to work through. If they are able to work through their personal problems and apprehensions about starting a relationship with each other they have the beginnings of something very special.

I have had a soft spot for Nora since she first appeared in a Virgin River novel. Being a single mother myself I know how hard it is to make a living for my kids and like her I will do anything to do so. She’s fiercely independent and is proud of her life that she has created for her two young children. She loves the town of Virgin River because of all that the town has done for her. Nora grows a lot during Sunrise Point where she learns the truth about her father. I cannot wait till the next Robyn Carr!

The P.U.R.E.
The P.U.R.E. by Claire Gillian

No one ever said Gayle Lindley’s first job would be a killer.

Fresh out of college, Gayle’s career path should follow the yellow brick road straight to the top. Thanks to a menial errand gone wrong, a wayward tongue, and a randy supervisor who won’t take ‘no’ for an answer, Gayle’s stuck in corporate hell.

Discovering a company secret only turns up the heat.

The one part of her life not going down in flames is her friendship with the gorgeous, but intensely private, Jon Cripps. Jon would make the perfect consolation prize for Gayle’s pity party if dating a co-worker wasn’t career suicide. Then again, with all Gayle has been through, maybe falling in love is the lucky break she needs.

Hitting the cool sheets with Jon soothes her mind and body, but it also enrages whoever’s behind the smokescreen she’s uncovered at work. Someone is willing to kill to protect their secrets, and Gayle and Jon are the targets.

With both her heart and livelihood at stake, Gayle’s early career-limiting moves could turn into life-terminating ones.

Review:  I loved this book from start to finish. I did not want it to end. I would love to hear more about these characters in more books. Gayle is the kind of character that I love. She’s super strong, independent, smart and so witty that she has you laughing out loud so much. Jon is the perfect specimen of the perfect man: tall, dark, and smart. Gayle was open and talkative whereas Jon was more quiet and reserved. They were a perfect yin and yan that their characters worked so well together.

The book opens up to both characters getting in trouble for mistakes they made accounting in their first big job. They fast become friends. Gayle wants more of a relationship with Jon but knows it would be the end of her career. After their reprimand Gayle suspects that there is something fishy going on. She doesn’t know who is involved or what is involved but she wants to find out. While working at her job Gayle has become amateur sleuth trying to find all she can on the inconsistencies she is finding. Along the way she drags a reluctant Jon with her. They become closer and romance ensues.

I kept trying to guess who did what and what their motives were but I was never right. I was surprised how well the mystery was written with just enough suspense to keep you on your toes. Once you add in Gayle’s superb wit you have a great tale of mystery and intrigue. It was a story in an arena that is not often talked about. Corporate America tends to be stuffy and not the backdrop for a suspenseful romantic comedy. This is definitely an author to watch for; one that I have put on my must read author’s list.

Rise From Darkness by Ciara Knight
Release Date: April 7, 2012
Publisher: Turquoise Morning Press
Pages: 250
Source: Bewitching Book Tours

Alexander Lorre gives new meaning to the term “tor-mented teen.” He’s a newly fallen angel, which means he has the self-control of a three-year-old, the hormones of a teenager and the strength of an angel. When he rescues Gaby Moore from drowning, the chemistry between them is undeniable. With a local demon threatening Gaby’s life, he struggles to find a balance between remaining close enough to protect her but distant enough to control his desires. As danger draws closer, Gaby uncovers shattering secrets that will lead to an ultimate choice. Will she fight alongside her father, an earthbound hunter killing fallen angels and demons, give into the demon blood coursing through her veins and join the demon world, or save the man she loves from both? The first two choices damn her, but the last one could destroy them all.

Review: I don’t often read YA novels but when I do I always love them! I really should start reading more. I really enjoyed Rise from Darkness. It had such an interesting world with the perfect mix of paranormal elements and real world issues. I was hooked to this novel from the first page and could not put it down. I wanted to find out what happened next and finished the novel in a couple hours. It really doesn’t happen often any more where I’m left guessing what is going to happen next or where I have to really think about what is going on. The storyline in Rise from Darkness is very complex with many secondary characters. It is one of those novels that you want to read more than once because you know you have missed something the first time around.

The main character Gaby has a lot things in her life that she doesn’t quite understand and it frustrates her. Her life is not like those around her and she really wishes it was. She never had friends growing up and forget about a boyfriend. Her dad is way too strict for that. Her life completely changes when she meets Alex and his sister Sammy on the beach. They appear to be human but they really are not. Gaby isn’t quite human either. Alex and Gaby become more than friends. Their relationship takes a lot of hits that most relationships don’t endure but they find a way to stay together.

Rise from Darkness is an excellent first novel in a series where it gives us all the information needed to know what is going on and sets the reader up for future novels and this was all done seamlessly. I will be looking for the next novel in the series because I’m so anxious to find out how Gaby deals with all the changes in her life. Knight is definitely an author to watch out for!

Going Back for Romeo by L.L. Muir
Series: A Muir Witch Project (# 1)
Release Date:  December 4, 2011
Publisher: Amazon Digital Services
Page Count: 177
Source: ebook provided by the author

Jillian MacKay is being conned by a pair of eighty-year-old witches. They’re convinced she’s the perfect sucker to test a prophecy and they’re willing to bury her alive to prove it. Once she escapes and finds herself in 15th Century Scotland, she believes her return home depends on a heroic deed—she must rescue a plaid-clad Romeo and Juliet before tragedy can end in tragedy. The monster standing in her way, however, is a handsome Highlander who might just be her own Romeo…a Romeo she must leave behind.

Rather than surrender his secrets, Montgomery Ross would prefer to go down in history as the heartless creature who betrayed one sister and buried the other alive. When he falls in love with the prophesied faery who has come to expose him, he’ll have to learn a wee lesson from the star-crossed lovers or suffer the fate to which he once condemned them.

Review: The blurb for this novel had all my favourite things: time travel, Highlanders, witches and romance. Muir did a great job at creating a story that was new even if though she used themes that have been all the craze in the romance genre for some time. There is just enough from each theme without making it over the top or kitschy.

Jillian is a woman who is trying to realize what her life is going to be like after her grandmother dies. She can now be the independent woman she has always wanted to be and not under her grandmother’s thumb. Since her grandmother has passed away Jilly has wanted to travel to Scotland to visit the land her grandmother told her to stay away from. She meets the Muir sisters in the library while researching her trip. The Muir sister convince her or rather conned her into going to the Ross castle.

Jilly is a spunky, fiery, and sassy girl who finds herself in the 15th Century but does not quite understand how she got there. Neither do any of the people she encounters when she is released from a tomb. A romance ensues between Monty, the 15th century Highlander and her. While in her time travel to the past she encounters mystery and cannot seem to stay out of trouble. Monty and Jilly are both very strong characters that will make you laugh with their interactions. Jilly is compelled to save a couple hopes of it being what is needed to return to the present. It is well worth the read for anyone that enjoys a good Highlander romance. You must read the book to find out what happens between Monty and Jilly! I’m anxious to read the next book in the series.
