Happily Bedded Bliss

“Her mouth, the one I was so used to seeing smirking at me over some private joke, smiling during the rough times when only laughter could still the tears, that mouth with the full perfectly curved lips, wide and generous, came down over mine with a gentle certainty. God, she could kiss…” —Radclyffe, “Training Op”

Best Lesbian Romance 2012 celebrates the dizzying sensation of falling in love—and the electrifying thrill of sexual passion. Romance maestra Radclyffe gathers irresistible stories of lesbians in love to awaken your desire and send your imagination soaring. As Radclyffe writes, “within these pages are the reflections of our dreams, the memories of our precious moments, and the unique wonder of our special love stories.”

With contributed stories by Anna Meadows, Radclyffe, Rachel Kramer Bussel, Cheyenne Blue, Geneva King, Anna Watson, Theda Hudson, Sheree L. Greer, Catherine Paulssen, JL Merrow, Angela Vitale, Giselle Renarde, Lee Lynch, Lisabet Sarai, Siobhan Colman, D. Jackson Leigh, and Evan Mora.

Review: This was an anthology of very short stories about lesbian romance by various writers. At the end of the book there is a section of “about the authors”. It provides a bit about the author and provides their web sites.

When I first received this book I was a little hesitant reading short stories and not a whole book about a central character. I wanted to read one long story! Then I started to read these stories. They are very sensual and romantic so if that isn’t what you’re looking for in a lesbian book, then I suggest you find another book because all I have to say is WOW!!!

I think what I like best about the short stories is the possibilities. The stories end, always, with a happy ending and yet there are all of these possibilities of where the story could go that is so very appealing to me. For example, “Love Story” by Evan Mora is a story about a woman telling her lover about a story, I won’t go into do much depth (please forgive me!), because then I’ll be telling the whole story! The point is, the author leaves the end of the story with an ending and yet the possibilities of what the two women could be doing once the story ends is quite exciting.

I loved the one story called “A Prom Story in Three Parts” by Sheree L. Greer. It’s about a young woman (still in high school), trying to figure out her sexuality and how she fits in the world. So good! Haven’t we all struggled with trying to figure out who we are when we were in high school? I felt it was so appropriate to be in this anthology. There were also stories about women who fell for their best friends such as “Misty and Me” by Catherine Paulssen. I felt this story had a lot of substance to it and I really really liked the end!

I think the story that stayed with me the longest and was (in my humble opinion!!) the most emotional was “Clean Slate” by Lisabet Sarai. This was a story about a young woman who has been going to someone to have tattoos removed from her body. I won’t say anymore in order that you enjoy it without me ruining it for you. I wish that story had a more definitive ending but I understand the possibility factor, but I still wanna have more of an ending!

I give this book (and all it’s authors) 5 roses because frankly this book was fabulous and I lost sleep reading all of these stories! I hope you like this book!

Tied and Twisted by Emily Ryan-Davis
Release Date: September 28, 2011
Publisher: Ellora’s publishing
Pages: 81
Source: ebook provided by the publisher

Alarm specialist David has neither room nor desire for complications with his sex. But complication is exactly what he gets when he discovers his newest submissive plaything and his newest client are the same person. And they’re both being threatened by an enemy he can’t identify.

Complications aren’t exactly among Jovanna’s favorite things either. She’s looking for escape, not love, during her visits to a local BDSM club. She didn’t anticipate David Burke would be the man behind the best flogging of her life…or that her past would rear its ugly head and threaten to end her life just as she begins to enjoy it again.

Review: Jovanna is a 30 year old woman with her own yarn/knitting business who is in need of a security system installed due to someone who has been vandalizing her business and being a pain in the you know what. Jovanna is afraid it might be her ex husband bothering her but she’s not sure. David is the owner of a security business in town and installs a system for her at her request and there is also some smokin’ hot chemistry, but Jovanna, who is recently divorced from a man that was a real jerk to her is afraid of commitment and being intimately close with a man again. Jovanna decides to go to a BDSM club after a recent break in at her business to try and blow off some steam and David happens to be there that night as well and well….that’s when the story really picks up and gets sooooo good!!!!

I don’t want to spoil ANYTHING for you!!!!! I LIKED this book…a lot. I liked Jovanna, she’s tough but not stupid “I’m going to go out in the dark by myself and nobody knows where I am”. She’s vulnerable and scared but willing to try again. David, oh David, he’s a strong alpha male but not a jerk. He’s a man that knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to go after it but is sensitive and a nice guy. Why can’t I find my own David?!!!

Anyway, back to business…..This book is enjoyable…predictable, but who cares? It’s entertaining and makes you want to sit and finish it in one gulp. I give this book 5 stars…yeah!!!

The Vampire’s Touch by Shela Sky
Release Date: October 5, 2011
Publisher: Wild Rose Press
Pages: 109
Source: publisher

One snowy December night, Genevieve Morgan, a witch, and her young daughter, Lydia, are saved by a mysterious creature of darkness. She senses more to this vampire than meets the eye.

Drummond Laborde happens upon evil incarnate feeding upon a wee child and interferes, saving both the little one and her mother. He cannot suffer the atrocity to live and, with stake in hand, destroys one of his own kind. Yet Drummond is different, the commander of his own personal destiny.

Genevieve and Drummond share an immediate bond and attraction. The vampire’s touch creates a frenzy within Genevieve. Still afraid to open her heart, she turns him away only to experience yet another night of terror. Lonely and frightened, will Genevieve allow Drummond into her structured, solitary life? Or will she continue to face unknown terror alone to keep her daughter safe?

Review: Genevieve is a mother to a young girl and they both are magical, powerful witches. Genevieve has cut herself off from pretty much everyone and lives for her child. Genevieve feels hurt by the witch’s elders, by her mother as well as by her former lover, who is her child’s father. Then we have Drummond, who is a very old vampire (have you ever read about a young vampire? no? me neither!!). Drummond saves Genevieve’s daughter from an attack from another vampire, which is odd as vampire’s don’t attack children. Tensions build up between Genevieve and Drummond and Genevieve will have to confront the witch’s elders as well as someone else…..hmmmm the plot thickens.

I don’t want to give too much away….. I thought the story was good, but I felt that Genevieve was too wrapped up in herself and was her own worst enemy. I thought she pushed everyone away when she didn’t get her own way. I liked Drummond, he was a more complex character then Genevieve and I rooted for him more then her. I thought the little girl was cute as well. I give this book 3 stars.

Her Alien Masters by Ann Jacobs
Series: Pleasure Partners (# 6)
Release Date: October 5, 2011
Publisher: Ellora’s Cave Publishing
Pages: 65
Source: ebook provided by the publisher

Garnet wants great wealth—and finds it in her new Master, the golden alien Romulus. But she soon learns Romulus also has a male slave, Antonio, his life companion. When they were young, Antonio was modified to be a near-perfect duplicate of his Master. Their bond is strong and Romulus expects Garnet to welcome Antonio into their bed. Though sex with the two men is wonderful, Garnet wants her mate all to herself.

Romulus has two jealous lovers on his hands. Wishing to make Garnet happy, he gifts Antonio with his own eunuch as a compromise…but Romulus misses him deeply. As Garnet’s love for Romulus grows, so does her need to make him happy as well. Her solution? All four of them—living together, sleeping together, loving together. Always.

Reader Advisory: This book offers erotic public and multi-partner sex scenes.
Publisher’s Note: ”The Pleasure Partners” series originally comprised the Luna Ten Chronicles and Obsidion Chronicles series, and were previously published elsewhere. Each book has evolved through extensive lengthening and revision for Ellora’s Cave to provide a consistent and enjoyable reading experience. This book was previously titled Obsidion Chronicles: Garnet’s Fantasy.

Review: This is a short very steamy story about a young woman from a family of numerous girls who need to marry above their station as they are poor. This story was the 6th installment in the series, and no, reading the other books before hand is not necessary, you’ll follow along just fine if you haven’t read any of the other books. The heroine Garnet is set to marry Romulus who has made his fortune in the sex business. He has a lifemate Antonio who was made to look like him and service his needs. The unfortunate part in all this is that homosexual sex is not allowed on this planet, but was ok on the planet they originally came from. Antonio is jealous and concerned about his future with Romulus, confused and conflicted feelings ensue, but in the end, all parties are blissfully happy. I liked this story, I found is difficult to get into at first, I didn’t like Garnet, she was very selfish, and I felt that Romulus was not sensitive to Antonio’s feelings or concerns. The story got better and I really liked the way the author gave everyone a happy ending. I give this story 4 stars. Happy reading!!!

Tamed by the Dom

Tamed by the Dom by Jan Bowles
Series:  Guilty Pleasures (# 3)

Publisher: Siren Publishing

Release Date:  July 5, 2011
Page Count:  119 pages (231 KB)

[Siren Everlasting Classic: Erotic Cowboy Romance, BDSM, sex toys] When Katrina Masters returns to Fairfax, Texas, after seventeen years away, she finds things have changed. The guy she had a crush on at high school is now running a sex club and is a Dom to boot! Common sense tells her to steer well clear, but she’s sorely tempted by his job offer. Self-made man Colt Donahue is a strict Dom. His business, Club Fusion, is a great success, and he’s not about to let the local Sheriff or the narrow-minded people of Fairfax close him down. He’s here to stay. From the moment he sees Kat, he wants her. Just one look in her sultry hazel eyes, and Colt knows the sassy, outspoken woman is for him. Nothing would excite him more than making her submit to his will. Colt shows Katrina what a Dom is really capable of, but can he tame the firebrand into complete submission? ** A Siren Erotic Romance

Review:  This was a VERY entertaining read. I just felt the need to put that out there before we get down to the nitty gritty!! Ok, here we go. The story opens with Katrina Masters who comes back to her home town due to her mom passing away. She’s pretending to be more successful then she really is because she’s ashamed and embarrassed at how her life turns out. She’s made some really bad and really dumb decisions and is counting on her mom’s inheritance, which she finds out she doesn’t get. Then we have Colt Donahue, who recently opened a BDSM club which the town is not too happy about. Especially the town sheriff, who becomes increasingly annoying as the story goes on. After a chance meeting between Katrina and Colt, he offers her a job at his club as a hostess, greeter, hat check girl. She accepts, and that’s when the story takes off. I really liked some of the plot lines in this story, it makes both characters more likeable. Especially Katrina. She’s made some really bad decisions and I still can’t figure out her reasoning for them. I also think both character’s vulnerabilities makes them more endearing and they stay with me longer. I love that!! Don’t you? The chemistry is hot, Colt is hot, the story is hot.

The Vampire’s Madam by L. Rosario
Release Date:  August 19, 2011
Publisher:  The Wild Rose Press
Page Count: 26 pages
Source:  publisher provided

Not only is Janna Cutting scorned by Victorian Society for her Indian blood but also because she owns one of the city’s most profitable brothels. As madam she possesses wealth and independence and still she longs for one thing, the mysterious Hugh de Troyes. Yet, week after week, he treats her as nothing more than the proprietor of Keya House.

Fueled by jealousy, Janna decides to play voyeur during the handsome Frenchman’s visit. What she witnesses leaves her aroused beyond endurance and privy to the knowledge that Hugh is far from satisfied. He deserves a woman willing to see to all his needs, a woman willing to bleed. Janna is that woman, but failing to convince Hugh might leave her with a wound far greater than any his fangs could inflict.

Review:  This was a short story but was very entertaining. I hesitate to say much because I don’t want to reveal too much of the story and ruin it for you. We’ll give this a shot…. Meet Jana Cutting, a madam that runs a brothel in London. We also have Hugh de Troyes who comes in each week when the brothel is closed. He chooses his girl, goes into a room, does what he needs to do and this is his pattern each week. Jana is wildly attracted to him and wishes it was she that he chose each week. She feels unworthy due to her Indian parenting and so is not the pasty white that is all the rage and is instead a warm brown. Needless to say, things eventually heat up but I shant give too much away. That’s for you to find out!!! The only complaint I have is this is too darn short. It would have been cool if it was more storyline, more plot. I still liked it though.

Born to Play by Cynthia Arsuaga

Candi Hartz, is a romance author in a loveless marriage. One fateful night, she follows the cheating husband to the local vampire sex club and meets the vamp owner. Her life takes a drastic turn when with one kiss she enters the world she only read about. Gregori Van Zant is a dangerous vampire. As the head of the Mid-Atlantic Blood Family of vampires, he can have any vamp or human woman at his disposal. One night, a captivating woman walks into his club and he devises a plan. The two lovers come together and sign a contract—an exchange of sex for research. Candi is born to play and Gregori is anxious to show her. An old enemy of Gregori’s arrives unexpectedly and disrupts their plans. With a final battle looming on the horizon, will the two fated lovers find love eternal or will death play a part? ONE VAMPIRE, ONE WOMAN, ONE CONTRACT, ONE WEEK TO PLAY.

Review:  This was an erotic romance story. The protagonist was Gregori, who is a vampire. He owns a sex club where vamps and humans can indulge in erotic delights. Candi is a romance author who’s publisher wants her to spice up her stories with some kinky, erotic, steamy plots. The better to entice her fans to buy her books. Her sales are declining and her stories are boreing with ho hum sex scenes. Then, in a matter of a paragraph, Candi’s marriage to her husband Ethan takes a nose dive and we find out that Ethan isn’t happy in the marriage. I would have liked to have seen how their marriage went south instead of in a paragraph, but I digress. Candi finds a card in Ethan’s pants regarding a sex club which she searches for on the internet and finds out what it is. She goes there, meets up with Gregori and then all of the sudden, she finds herself facing singledom again. She goes from passionately loving her husband to despising him, again, in one paragraph. They had one really intense sex scene, but that was it. I thought some of her dialogue was corny and I thought that some of Gregori’s dialogue made him sound stiff and “english is not first language”. Ethan was a total moron and totally deserved what he got. The other woman got her’s as well. The story held my interest and I enjoyed it.

500 Acres and No Place to Hide: More Confessions of a Counterfeit Farm Girl by Susan McCorkindale
Series: Farm Girl (#2)
Pages: 351 pages
Publication Date: August 2, 2011
Publisher: New American Library
Source: book provided by publisher

In this charming, poignant, and uproarious follow-up to Confessions of a Counterfeit Farm Girl, Susan McCorkindale chronicles the continuously harrowing journey of what happens when you leave the big city for the land of wide-open spaces.

When Susan’s husband dragged her from the ‘burbs to the back of beyond, she thought she’d never live to see hers sons approach redneck status—and be happy about it. But after four years of living among the cows and goats instead of fashionistas and Wall Street tycoons, Susan has almost adjusted to life on the farm—even if she does miss the occasional grande soy mocha latte.

But “City Suzy” hasn’t gone completely country. In fact, she’s made farm life fit her, not the other way around. That’s why you’ll find her attempting to put pink collars on her sons’ bull calves, and campaigning hard for pair of Hampshire hogs (“They have black bodies with white ‘belts’ around their shoulders. Pretty snazzy for swine, no?”) She’ll never be a real farm girl, but as you’ll see from her sidesplitting confessions, she’s faking it just fine.

Review: When I agreed to read this book, I responed to it because it sounded funny and it called to my sense of humor.  I then realized after I agreed to read it that it was a continuation of her previous book Confessions of a Counterfeit Farm Girl.  I was immediately filled with trepidation that I wouldn’t be able to follow this book, that I would be reading the words, but I would not comprehend what I was reading because I hadn’t read the previous book.  I have to tell you, no worries about being lost while reading this book.  Things are explained, there are no “huh?” moments where you’re totally confused.

This book was really entertaining.  I mean REALLY entertaining.  I have to admit that this would be a book that I would pass over in the bookstore because, really, who wants to read about someone complaining about being someplace they don’t want to be?  I was in for a pleasent suprise that Susan’s comentary about her life on a farm are not whiney, moaney annoying complaints.  She was sharp and snarky without sounding like a total bitch and complained without it sounding like some rich snob.  I really liked Susan because as you read more and more of her story, you see that she’s a wife and a mom who’s helping to keep her family on track.  She reveals family struggles that need to be dealt with and some very sad news that was brought to light.  Without having read the first book, it sounds like Susan has adjusted to living life on the farm and is doing quite nicely!!

I think most women could relate to this story, wheather you’re a wife or mother or not.  After all we all have a story to tell!!!  The one complaint that I have is that she has footnotes throughout her story.  While the footnotes are helpful little gems, I found them to be distracting.  I would read the footnote and then I forgot what I read and had to reread what I read.  I felt like I was back in college again!!  I’m curious about what happens next and I hope another book will be written.  I think I might get the previous book just to find out how this all started!!!  I give this book 4 roses!!!!!

Everything to Lose by Katie Reus

Source: Provided by publisher for review

Sean Sullivan refuses to let his wife go without a fight. He made a mistake a year ago by suggesting they get a divorce. He only wanted to scare her into staying in town, so he gave her an ultimatum. No one was more surprised than him when she walked out the door and never looked back. Now that she’s on the same continent, he plans to convince her they’re meant to be together, and he’s not above using sex to get what he wants. When killers target them to die, he’ll use any means necessary to keep her safe. Even if he has to kidnap her and tie her to his bed to do it.

Review:  I picked this book to read because of it’s cover. I know I know, never judge a book by it’s cover, but the cover really grabbed my attention and pulled me in. So, even though this is a short read, it’s really packed with a punch. Caitlyn and Sean are married, she wants to divorce him, he doesn’t want his marriage to end. Sean is a cop who’s got some bad guy after him and possibly anyone else close to him, so Sean needs to protect his wife much to her chagrin. Sean likes being in control and Caitlyn feels as if he doesn’t listen to her which has caused some friction in their marriage. I liked this book. I really liked the idea of the story and the cover kind of hinted at some of the chemistry between the two characters and you shant be dissapointed!! What I had a problem with was because it was a short story, not all of the ideas that the author had could be developed fully. I would have liked to have witnessed the fight that led to their breakup. I wanted to see what their lives were like after she left. I liked the characters, they both were flawed and they loved each other in spite of them. I liked that they hurt each other and their marriage was messy but in the end they loved each other. A happy ending isn’t bad either!!!
