In a future world, vampires reign. Humans are blood cattle. And one girl will search for the key to save humanity.
Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a vampire city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten.

Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred of them. The vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself is attacked—and given the ultimate choice. Die…or become one of the monsters.

Faced with her own mortality, Allie becomes what she despises most. To survive, she must learn the rules of being immortal, including the most important: go long enough without human blood, and you will go mad.

Then Allie is forced to flee into the unknown, outside her city walls. There she joins a ragged band of humans who are seeking a legend—a possible cure to the disease that killed off most of humankind and created the rabids, the mindless creatures who threaten humans and vampires alike.

But it isn’t easy to pass for human. Especially not around Zeke, who might see past the monster inside her. And Allie soon must decide what—and who—is worth dying for.

Publisher: Tor
Pages: 336

As the junior wizard sentinel for New Orleans, Drusilla Jaco’s job involves a lot more potion-mixing and pixie-retrieval than sniffing out supernatural bad guys like rogue vampires and lethal were-creatures. DJ’s boss and mentor, Gerald St. Simon, is the wizard tasked with protecting the city from anyone or anything that might slip over from the preternatural beyond.

Then Hurricane Katrina hammers New Orleans’ fragile levees, unleashing more than just dangerous flood waters.

While winds howled and Lake Pontchartrain surged, the borders between the modern city and the Otherworld crumbled. Now, the undead and the restless are roaming the Big Easy, and a serial killer with ties to voodoo is murdering the soldiers sent to help the city recover.

To make it worse, Gerry has gone missing, the wizards’ Elders have assigned a grenade-toting assassin as DJ’s new partner, and undead pirate Jean Lafitte wants to make her walk his plank. The search for Gerry and for the serial killer turns personal when DJ learns the hard way that loyalty requires sacrifice, allies come from the unlikeliest places, and duty mixed with love creates one bitter gumbo.

Over a millennium ago, Highlander Darach MacRath was murdered. Resurrected by the Archangel Michael to fight demons as an Immortal Executioner, Darach now opposes all evil in the mortal world. His life is solitary—but when he rescues a young woman who not only sees demons but battles them herself, he is captivated by her courage and beauty. Abigail Dupree is not looking for love. But when a tall, dark demon fighter with a sexy brogue intervenes in her hunt, she’s fascinated. She should run away—but then his gentle yet sizzling touch ensnares her heart. When a demon from Darach’s past sets his sights on Abby, Darach will do anything to protect her—but for Abby, losing him would be worse than death. Together they must fight the demons of past and present, and the possibility that evil could destroy them both, before they find the gift of love.

Review:  This was a tale of good vs. evil in its purest form.

Darach was as easy for me to fall for as he was for Abby. His out-of-this-world body and his sexy Scottish brogue made him almost irresistible. The awful things that happened to him in his previous life broke my heart. Abby with her “gift” and willingness to help others had me rooting for her from the first page.

The characters were well developed. I loved Michael the Archangel. His concern for the mortals on earth as well as for his Immortal Warriors made him very real to me. Sean had a really intriguing back story that made me want to know more about him. Arianna’s feisty and smart. I know she has a deep dark secret that I’m dying to know.

I was impressed by Ms. Smith’s story telling. Abby and Darach’s verbal sparring was entertaining. There were heart breaking and heart pounding moments. It reminded me of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter series but with less sex and the immortals worked for a boss they actually respected. There were some slow moments but over all this was a great read.

The Christian aspects of this book were heartfelt. Even the passion that Darach and Abby had for each other was sweet and pure.

Favorite Quote:  Reminder: Archangels do not shed tears over what happens in the mortal realm. It would be fruitless since he would never get any work done if he allowed his hardened shell to crack. As he reached for a golden cloth and wiped his eyes, he repeated, archangels do not shed tears.

Angel of Darkness by Cynthia Eden

Publisher: Brava
Page Count: 305

As an angel of death, Keenan’s job is to collect the souls on his list. He’s carried out his duty for two thousand years and never faltered once. Until he meets Nicole St. James. When the moment of death comes, Keenan hesitates, and instead of taking Nicole, Keenan touches the vampire who’s attacking her.

Cast out of heaven for disobedience, Keenan plummets to earth. Six months later, he finally manages to track Nicole to a bar in Mexico. He’s stunned to discover that the woman he remembers has undergone a dramatic change—she’s become a vampire. And when he realizes that she’s the target of all manner of enemies—other vampires, demons, even shifters—he’ll do whatever it takes to protect her, even if all hell breaks loose…

Review: I love Cynthia Eden’s books. I’ve read a good many of them and have become a big fan. However, this book wasn’t one of my favorites.

Keenan and Nicole were easy to like characters. You can’t help but feel for him at the very start of the book. His dilemma of duty verses love pulled at my heart right away. I liked the fact that no matter what happened as the book progressed he never wavered in knowing he’d made the right choice.

Nicole, the reluctant vampire, had her own inner demons to slay. She was glad she didn’t die in that alley but at the same time she hated what she had to become in order to live. In the end she embraced the fact that now she could fight for herself and for her man. I think it was important for Nicole that she was able to repay Keenan for saving her life.

I enjoyed the character, Sam. He brought a mystery and edge that was needed. I’d like to know more about his selfish reasons for helping Keenan and Nicole.

Cynthia Eden didn’t disappoint me with the fast pace and hot love scenes I look forward to in her books. Her description of New Orleans was just as I remember it. From dirty alleys to stealing motorcycles you feel like your right there with the characters. I just felt this book lacked the imagination of her other work.

Quote: “He was scared of you”
“He should be”
“ I’m the vampire, but he was scared of you.” She turned and caught his arm with her right hand. Her left still gripped the sheet and held it just above her breasts. “Before I go any where with you, I want to know just what the hell you are.”
That same grim smile tilted the corners of his perfect lips.
“I just told you, sweet, I’m your guardian.”

The Big, Bad… by Nina S Gooden

Publisher: The Wild Rose Press

When Roux left on her daily “meals on wheels” route she expected to visit the not-so-kindly old lady “Grandma.” Only, when she gets to the cottage she discovers that the mean old crow has been killed by what looks like a vicious animal. Oddly enough, the only person she finds at the scene of the crime is a strange naked man who turns out to be a shape-shifting wolf! Our flustered heroine quickly finds herself caught up in a whirlwind of blood, danger, and lust. On one hand she has to dodge bullets and pitchforks, while on the other she has to unravel her own confusing feelings for the wolf who has suddenly and unrelentingly claimed her as his mate. Her only option, if she wants to go back to her nice, quiet life is to help this wolf find out who is framing him and why. When the only person she can trust is the one most dangerous to her heart, Roux has to make the ultimate choice between a past of comfort and a future that is unwritten. The only question is: will she really want to leave after he awakens the well of passion within her?

Review:  This new twist on an old fairy tale was imaginative and entertaining. The story is fast paced and doesn’t have a single boring part.

Roux is a character you can’t help but like. She’s naïve but not stupid. Roux takes charge and doesn’t let anyone run over her. She’s my kind of heroine.

The big, bad wolf, Aldrich is HOT. From his first scene you can’t help but fall for him. His protective nature is new to Roux and she has a hard time coming to terms with it.

Roux friends Mina and Ulrich were so likeable I hope the Author writes their stories as well.

There were a few unclear parts in the story and some confusing dialogue. At the end of the book Roux suddenly knows she has the thing everyone has been looking for and it seemed like the Author just threw that in as an after thought.

Quote: “Stop fighting me!” He growled

“Stop scaring me!” I screamed
